Henry B. Rankin. Henry B. Rankin quietly observed histeventy-ninth birthday anniversarytoday at his home, 510 South Secondstreet. Only immediate members of his fam-ily joined with him in the days obser-vance. He has rounded out his four scoreyears with a mind much keener anda memory much more accurate than jthose of many men his junior as years jare reckoned. Although not always a resident ofSangamon county, it was in this countythat Mr. Rankin was born. Hisbirthplace was near what. is now thecity of Athens. His father, AmberryA. -Rankin, lived in that section of cen-tral Illinois which originally consti- tilted Sangamon county. This partic-ular section of territory within two orthree years after tha birth of Henry -B.Rankin, became a part of Menardcounty. Located Near New Salem Col. Matthew Rogers, the grandfath-er of Mr. Rankin on his mothers side,came with his family to Illinois in 1»18from Cooperstown, X. Y, taking a claimfourteen miles from what is nowSpringfield and four miles
