That rail-splitting story wasmly made up for political purposes, to!ise to get votes. Lincoln and my husband were al-ways good friends, but he voted forDouglas. It is Fred N. Wilcox of 33819th-av who is speaking. Listen-ing with avid interest, is his 4-year-old neighbor, Aileen McGee,339 19th-av. Aileen is one of many young-sters who like to listen to Mr.Wilcox tell stories of the CivilWar. ^ He is believed by G. A. R. offi-cials to be the oldest survivingmember in the state. He will be99 on Nov. 27. Southern girls were especiallykind to northern soldiers, Mr.Wilcox i-ecalls. They would hidebehind trees and slip fried chickento us.
