St Peters'denial. With his left hand the disciple Peter makes a gesture of denial in response of the accusations made by Caiaphas' maidservant, who is standing next to him holding a candle. To the left two soldiers in armor are present, one of whom is sitting at a table. To the right a chained Christ looks over his shoulder while he is being taken away.

: Sylvain-Raphaël de Baudouin, Paris (as ‘Deux grands tableaux faisant pendants. L'un représente le réniement de St. pierre; Cet Apôtre la Tète et le Corps couverts d'une grande Draperie de Laine blanche, Est deboust devant un foÿer. Sa main droite est appuïée sur sa poitrine, et de la gauche il semble se déffendre de la question que lui fait une Servante qui l'envisage avec attention a la clarté d'une lumière qu'elle tient entre ses doigts. Un Soldat armé de toutes pièces assis près du foÿer et dont le Casque et l'epée sont posés devant lui tient dans ses mains une grosse Cruche et cefse de boire pour écouter la réponce de l'apotre qu'il regarde attentivement. On apperçoit dèrierre lui un autre Soldat deboust appuÿé sur son Epée; il est aufsi armé de toutes pieces, et porte la même attention sur St. pierre. Ces quatre figures sont de grandeur de nature. Au haut du tableau on voit a droite sur un plan plus éloigné jesus avec deux Soldats, dont un lui tient les mains liées derrière le dos; Il est deboust devant trois juges Coëffés de turbans. L'effet étonnant de ce morceau qui ne reçoit la lumière que de la Chandelle qui est entre les doigts de la Servante,. L'espression, la couleur vigoureuse et la fierté de la touche, le mettent au rang des plus Capitaux de ce maître. Largeur 5. pieds 1. pouce, sur 4. pieds 8. pouces de haut’)
