English: At the site of Nazi concentration camp "Janowska" in Lviv, western Ukraine. Human remains. Photo from 1944 - Soviet extraordinary commission researches the crimes of German Nazis at Janowska concentartion camp (Lviv, west Ukraine) and mass graves adjoining the camp.

Janowska was a Nazi German labor, transit and concentration camp established September 1941 in occupied Poland on the outskirts of Lwów (Poland, today Lviv in Ukraine). The camp was labeled Janowska after the nearby street's name ulica Janowska, nowadays Shevchenka street (Ukrainian: Вулиця Шевченка).

Notable inmates of Janowska camp:

  • Adolf Beck, Polish physiologist
  • Emanuel Szlechter, Polish screenwriter and lyricist
  • Simon Wiesenthal, Nazi hunter.
