| Description |
English: Remains of a 14th century cross. This 14th century cross was resited in order to mark the location of the last battle fought near here during the Peasant's Revolt, on 22. June 1381. For a close-up of the plaque which can be seen affixed to the wall behind it see > 1065061. The rebels, headed by John Leicester, a dyer from Norwich, were defeated by Henry Spencer, the warlike Bishop of Norwich. The nearby market town of North Walsham was the centre of this revolt. The cross is now located beside the entrance to North Walsham's two water towers > 1065201. |
