| Description |
English: Remains of Dyke Steep Grade Railway The only remains of this http://www.urban75.org/railway/images/devils07.jpg a funicular railway that travelled up the northern escarpment of the Downs at Devil's Dyke (See http://www.findonvillage.com/p6029_steep_grade_railway_0725.jpg ). It was built in 1897 at the height of the Victorian discovery of the Dyke but never took off and closed down in 1907. Very little evidence remains today except the foundations of the engine house. The approach road to Poynings can be seen below through the low cloud. |
