Title

Description
English:

Lewis and Wiley were the hydraulic contractors. Caption on image: Lewis and Wiley. Inc. 3892

  • Subjects (LCTGM): Seattle (Wash.); Grading (Earthwork)--Washington (State)--Seattle; Apartment houses--Washington (State)--Seattle; Street lights--Washington (State)--Seattle; Pipes (Conduits)--Washington (State)--Seattle; Churches--Washington (State)--Seattle

Pipes here are disgorging sand sluiced out of a hill, presumably in the Jackson Street Regrade. The hill in the background is Jackson Hill, none of which remained south of Jackson Street after that regrade. The view here looks almost exactly northeast; it's hard to know just what was and wasn't land at that point, so it would be particularly hard to pin down the location here without identifying a few more buildings besides just the 1884 Holy Names Academy (demolished in that regrade), but this appears to be somewhere southeast of Fifth and Lane.
