Summary[edit]

Description
English: Metaphor of athletes.

Athletes have to run on the beach then swim, always with a way perpendicular to the shore. They all run at the same speed, swim at the same speed, but they swim slowlier than they run. They start on a line, but this line is not perpendicular to the shore.

We can see that the direction of the line formed by the athletes changes after the shore: while the first swimmers go slowly, the athletes on the beach keep on running fast.

The light has the same behaviour when the medium changes. The boundary is similar to the strand, and the wave crest is similar to the line of athletes
