English: Arms of de Redvers, Earls of Devon: Or, a lion rampant azure
English: Arms of Percy (modern): Or, a lion rampant azure. Said to be the arms of Louvain/Brabant (See: Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry, 15th Edition, ed. Pirie-Gordon, H., London, 1937, p.1792). Probably first adopted by Richard de Percy, 5th Baron Percy (c. 1170-1244) (who adopted the surname Percy), the son of Joscelin of Louvain (1121–1180), styled "brother of the queen" (referring to Adeliza of Louvain, second wife of Henry I), by his wife Agnes de Perci, suo jure Baroness Percy, the heiress of the Percy estates in England. From this marriage descends the English House of Percy, Earls of Northumberland. |
