Summary[edit]

Description
English: Red Rail, south of Hoarwithy Red Rail lies at the southern tip of Hoarwithy. There are records of the existence of a ford (near the point shown in the photograph) in 1652. The building of a bridge across the River Wye at Hoarwithy signalled the end for Red Rail Ford. Excavations in the 1960s found a cobbled road on the east bank. More recent excavations, carried out by Archenfield Archaeology, also discovered a road on the west bank, close to this spot.
