Description
English: U.S. Air Force Raven Forward Air Controller Captain Mark Elliott, Raven 43, stands next to his Cessna O-1D Bird Dog (s/n 57-2974) following a mission, Pakse, Laos, 1973. US Air Force personnel served in Laos “unofficially” and wore civilian clothes.
The "Raven Forward Air Controllers", also known as "The Ravens", were fighter pilots used as forward air controllers (FACs) in a covert operation in conjunction with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency in Laos during America's Vietnam War. The Ravens pinpointed targets for most of the air strikes against communist Pathet Lao and People's Army of Vietnam infiltrators in support of the Laotian Hmong guerrilla army.
