| Description |
English: Bristol - Penzance express ascending Rattery Bank - 95 minutes late. This is another train on the infamous 27 July 1957 (cf. SX7760 : Manchester - Penzance express ascending Rattery Bank near Tigley), tackling the nine-mile climb westward from Totnes - 5½ miles of it at 1-in-50/60, on the ex-GWR South Devon main line. The 09.40 Bristol T.M. - Penzance still had 100 miles to go (with 17 stops) when seen here behind Collett 4-6-0s Nos. 7812 'Erlestoke Manor' and 4976 'Warfield Hall' (1/39-10/65 and 1/30-5/64 respectively); the 'Manor' is one of those preserved, in this case on the Severn Valley Railway. |
