English:

Building and operating a railroad was difficult and dangerous work. Railroad employees, almost entirely men, worked irregular hours under poor working conditions. Between July 1892 and the end of June 1893, 2,727 railroad workers were killed and another 31,729 injured on the job. In 1907, one out of every eight railroad employees was injured at work. This photographic postcard, probably made in the 1910s, shows a group of Great Northern Railway workers on the Snoqualmie River Bridge near North Bend, Washington.
