Summary[edit]
DescriptionRadio beach party 1923.jpg |
English: 1920s stage and screen actors Zena Keefe, Alice Mills, Sara Mullen, Lucy Fox, and Eddie Buzzell, in 20s swimming gear, dancing at the beach to the music of an early vacuum tube radio or "wireless", in a 1923 publicity photo. Radio broadcasting began around 1920 and radio listening was an exciting new high-tech pastime during the "Roaring 20s". The caption mentions that phonograph dealers might be "alarmed" at the picture, alluding to fears by the phonograph industry that radio would cut into their sales. Caption: "Zena Keefe, Alice Mills, Sara Mullen, Lucy Fox, and Eddie Buzzell, footlight and film celebrities, go to the beach for a radio-accompanied rehearsal. Zena looks worried about her cone, and some phonograph dealers are alarmed about the whole thing, but the wise ones grin in pleasure" |
