Girl being given vaccination for rabies after being bitten by an animal that was thought to be rabid.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: This historic photograph depicts a female child, who was wearing a bandage in a doctor’s office after she’d been being bitten by an animal suspected of being rabid. Postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) is the indicated protocol to be followed for persons who had possibly been exposed to a rabid animal. Possible exposures include animal bites, or mucous membrane contamination with infectious tissue, such as saliva. PEP should begin as soon as possible after an exposure.
