Summary[edit]

Description A U.S. Navy Vought F8U-1P Crusader aircraft (BuNo 145604) from Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron VFP-62, Det.33 Fighting Photos in flight. VFP-62, Det.33 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 6 (CVG-6) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVA-11) for a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 3 August 1961 to 3 March 1962.
145604 crashed on the first day of the Cuban Missile Crisis, 16 October 1962, while attached to VFP-62. Pilot, LCDR Newby Kelt, ejected and survived, but injured his back.
