HOUSING SITES TO BE ACQUIRED BY STATE

FOR the first time, it is believed, since the State Housing Commission was established, housing sites are to be acquired compulsorily between Hamilton Road and Rode Road, Chermside.

Announcing this yesterday, the Housing Minister (Mr. Power) said that notices of resumption had been served on six owners of land in the area last November.

Subsequent negotiations had resulted in purchase agreements being made by the Housing Commission with three of the owners, and it was expected that negotiations with a fourth would be completed soon.

As negotiations with two others for the purchase of their land at what was considered reason able prices had not been successful, it had been decided to acquire It compulsorily.

Mr. Power also said that Executive approval had been given for the Housing Commission to purhase for £2157/10/ building material for constructing State rental houses at Seven Hills Estate, Coorparoo, and at Stafford, and for sundry day labour projects.

Certain laundry equipment at Rocklea was to be sold for £1500, said the Minister.

The equipment comprised portion of electrical and mechanical equipment included in the purchase of the Rocklea hostels by the Stale from the Commonwealth.

The laundry equipment was not required for temporary housing projects.
