Summary[edit]

Description
English: Quainton Road station Quainton Road station is the home of the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre http://www.bucksrailcentre.org/ and is viewed here from the Station Road bridge. This is the second site for the station. When the line opened in 1868 the road crossed the railway by a level crossing, the gate on the left indicating the approximate route of the road. Quaintonroad station, as it then was named, was built on this side of the level crossing. However in 1896 the Metropolitan Railway replaced the station with the current one on the other side of the level crossing with the bridge from which this photograph was taken being built over the old station site. It can be seen that at one time the railway was double-tracked.

The large white building is an exhibition shed while the red carriages in the sidings are a set of withdrawn Royal Mail wagons.

(From a purely Geograph point of view this view also shows part of SP7318. The 219000 metre Northing gridline cuts across the track at about the right hand end of the brown latticework fence on the left platform of the station and then runs about through the middle of the long side of the white shed, so all detail to the left of that line and in the foreground is in the subject grid square, and all detail to the right, including the station platforms, is in SP7318.)
