Pvt. William Donaldson (CP 1179), National Museum of Health and Medicine Description: Private William Donaldson, Company B, 190th Pennsylvania volunteers, who received a bayonet wound to his right thigh during the battle of Weldon Railroad, Virginia on October 2nd, 1864. The wound became ulcerous, but was treated and healed. Attended by Dr. J.C. McKee. Caption reads: “Phagedenic condition of gunshot wnd. of thigh. Pvt. Wm Donaldson Co. B. 190 Pa.” History is on reverse: “Lincoln General Hospital. Washington, D.C., November 8, 1864. Pav. Ward 3, Bed 100,--Name, Wm. Donaldson, Private Co. B., 190th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers. Admitted to Hospital October 7, 1864. Oct. 2, 1864, He received a gunshot wound at the Battle near Weldon Rail Road, Va.,--Ball entering outer surface of right thigh passing directly backwards, producing a severe wound. Ten days after admission, wound assumed a sloughing phagedenic character, which was subdued by the application of Bromine. At the time it was Photographed, the wound appeared healthy. Photographed at Lincoln General Hospital. J.C.
