| Description |
English: The former Williamson Street branch of the Madison Public Library was designed by Claude and Starck as an Arts and Crafts building with Gothic revival and Prairie School motifs. Located at 1249 Williamson Street, it was immediately adjacent to the Marquette School. Initial funding for the branch library was offered by Andrew Carnegie in 1911, and the library opened in 1913 with a special focus on working-class readers in the city's blue-collar Sixth Ward district. The branch library moved to Atwood Avenue in 1958, and the building became home to the Grieg Chorus Club, a Norwegian-American social group. It now houses Yahara Builders. |
