| Description | Progress continues in the lower chute of the Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway project in Folsom, California, Oct. 29, 2014. A series of 67 concrete steps and seven baffle blocks are under construction to help slow down future water releases from the new Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway as they flow down a 200-foot drop before emptying into the American River. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, together with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and state and local partners, is building the spillway to reduce flood risk throughout the Sacramento region.
