Warren G Harding (b. 1865) served as the 29th President of the United States from 1921 until his death in 1923. In the summer of 1923, Harding undertook a 40-day cross country tour of the United States to promote his policies. On July 27, 1923 he arrived in Seattle, Washington. During his six-hour visit to Seattle, Harding visited the Bell Street Pier, rode in a parade downtown, and stopped by Volunteer Park and Woodland Park. Harding gave what would be his last public address to a crowd of roughly 25,000 spectators at University Stadium. On August 2, 1923, Harding died of an apparent heart attack in San Francisco at the end of his whirlwind tour. This photo from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was taken a few months prior to the start of Harding's 1923 tour of the country.
