| Description |
English: Preparing to dredge the Union Canal in Edinburgh In early 2008 British Waterways Scotland arranged a contract with the appropriately named Land and Water company for dredging the Union Canal within the City of Edinburgh. One of the sites at which the latter company based their equipment was adjacent to the Leamington Lift Bridge. Here we see a selection of empty hopper barges, a tug, the dredging excavator mounted on another barge and a land-based tractor-excavator for transferring dredged mud from barge to lorry for ultimate disposal. On the left three blocks of new waterside flats are being built and on the right paqrt of the former Fountainbridge Brewery awaits demolition and replacement by similar regenerating projects. |
