Description |
Nederlands: Op dit groepsportret wordt de `caritas', de liefde, een van de drie christelijke deugden, uitgebeeld door een vrouw omgeven door kinderen. De man links achter is waarschijnlijk haar echtgenoot. In de linker bovenhoek heeft de schilder zichzelf afgebeeld als de evangelist Lukas, patroon der schilders. Hij schrijft een tekst: `Ick heb dit ... int iaer ons heeren 1623 ... september in Amstelredam'. Geheel rechts staat Johannes de Doper. Rechts van hem waren toehoorders te zien, maar doordat het paneel is ingekort zijn die verdwenen. De man met het boek achter de vrouw stelt waarschijnlijk Paulus voor, die in zijn geschriften de nadruk legt op de deugd der liefde. |
