Title
"Maria Josefa, Prinzessin von Bayern"
Description
English: Portrait of Princess Isabella of Parma (1741-1763), first wife of Joseph II, misidentified with Maria Josepha of Bavaria (1739-1767), his second wife.
  • A previous identification of the sitter made by the museum where it is located (Windt, 1905) is taken up again based on the comparison with some portraits of Isabella of Parma (see images below) and the lack of physical resemblance of the sitter of this portrait to verified representations of Josepha of Bavaria.
Port Min 9,3. Lit: Windt S. 21 (VI/5 als Maria Isabella, erste Gemahlin von Kaiser Josef II.) - Ausstellung: Wien, 1905, Nr.183 (als Maria Isabella bezeichnet). Keil, Porträtminiaturen 1999, Kat. 106 (als Maria Josefa). Porträtminiatur.Wien,Hofburg,Präsidentschaftskanzlei." [1]
