English: Portrait of John and Carrie Denny, Portland, circa 1887
Description
English:

John Bunyan Denny (1862-1913) was the eldest son of Seattle pioneers David T. and Louisa Denny. He attended Willamette University law school in Portland. In 1887 John married Carrie V. Palmer (1853-1891), daughter of Rocelia A. and Alfred Lee Palmer(1835-1914), a prominent Seattle lawyer and real estate investor. Carrie was born in Iowa and moved to Seattle with her family from Nebraska in about 1882. She graduated from the Washington Territorial University (now University of Washington) in 1884. Four weeks after John was admitted to the state bar association in 1891, Carrie became only the third woman in Washington State to be admitted, and she joined the law practice of Palmer & Easly in July 1891. John and Carrie's two children, Edward Harold Denny (1887-1971) and Anna Louisa (Denny) Gay (1889-), were born in Seattle. In this portrait John and Carrie pose in a studio in Portland, Oregon, possibly about the time of their marriage in 1887.
