Portrait of Henry Bessemer, "Steel"
Description
Color lithograph reproduces a watercolor portrait caricature of Sir Henry Bessemer (1813-1898), an English engineer, inventor, and businessman. Bessemer's name is chiefly known in connection with the Bessemer process for the manufacture of steel. Originally published in Vanity Fair on November 6, 1880, Bessemer is shown as a slightly hunched man in a green frock coat, with a pleasant expression.
