Description
English: The view of Port Perry's downtown in 1940, looking west from a point just to the west of Lake Scugog, behind the photographer. On the right is the southern end of the grain elevator, which stands to this day. Queen Street, running west into the picture, was paved in the 1920s. Running off to the left is Water Street, just visible behind the bandstand in what is today's Palmer Park. In the foreground are the lines of the Port Whitby and Port Perry Railway, which ceased operations in 1939 and would be pulled up in 1941 to feed their steel into the war effort.
