Summary[edit]

Description

Historically, many English pilgrims going to Santiago de Compostela in Spain sailed from Poole to A Coruña to walk the Camino Inglés (English pilgrimage route). The symbol of St James and the pilgrimage is the scallop shell, which is why scallop shells feature on Poole's coat of arms and in various other places around the town.

This plaque is in the pavement on Poole Quay.
