Description
English: This is the pongal pai or the "pongal goodies bag" given to all ration card holders through the Public Distribution System by the govt of Tamil Nadu, India. The bag contained rice and other ingredients to make a small amount of Pongal and was distributed during the first week of january. An example of the freebies/sops provided by the TN govts - the bag features an image saying "happy tamil new year" - The then DMK govt changed the Tamil new year to Jan 15. After three years it was changed back by the next ADMK govt
