Title
Police turret bell
label QS:Len,"Police turret bell"
Description
English: Police turret bell
This assemblage comprises the riot equipment utilized by the police force between the 1950s and 1960s. It encompasses a pistol holder, baton, truncheon, intercom, shield, turret bell, and radio. During this era, it was commonplace to see policemen equipped with such gear patrolling the streets of Singapore. The heightened security measures were a response to several significant events. The Maria Hertogh riots in December 1950 claimed the lives of 18 people and left 173 injured, while the Hock Lee Bus Riots in 1955 resulted in additional fatalities. In 1955 alone, the police force had to address 300 strikes. The formal establishment of a Police Riot Squad eventually took place in 1965.
