Description
English: During expedition ANT-XIX/2 in 2001 the German polar research vessel POLARSTERN is unloading container and goods to supply the overwintering station NEUMAYER in Antarctica. Snow mobiles are waiting to be served. The image was taken from a tilted Polarstern helicopter during the late afternoon. Polarstern casts its shadow on the Ekström Schelf Ice, produced by the sinking sun in the northwest.
Deutsch: Während der Expedition ANT-XIX/2 (2001) entlädt das deutsche Polarforschungsschiff POLARSTERN Container und Güter zur Versorgung der Überwinterungsstation NEUMAYER in der Antarktis. Schneefahrzeuge warten auf ihre Ladung. Das Bild wurde aus einem schräg fliegenden Hubschrauber der Polarstern am späten Nachmittag aufgenommen. Polarstern wirft ihren Schatten auf des Ekström Schelfeis durch die tiefstehenden Sonne im Nordwesten.
