Summary[edit]
DescriptionPlay ship at Reigate, Surrey, England.jpg |
English: Miles from the sea! This ship forms part of the new children's playground in Priory Park, currently (2007) undergoing refurbishment with lottery funding. Although some thirty miles from the sea, there is some relevance to its being here - Reigate Priory itself was the home of Howard of Effingham, who as Lord Admiral of England was in command of the fleet that beat the Spanish Armada in 1588, and who is buried in St Mary's Church in Reigate.
In the background is the wooded ridge that forms the southern part of Priory Park. The photo was taken early on a Saturday morning (hence the lighting, with a low sun just off to the left of the picture), before any "crew" had turned up. |
