Summary[edit]

Description
English: Disposable plastic fruit tray/punnet showing photoelasticity through crossed polarisers/polarizers. This is a completely ordinary disposable tray that once contained some plums. The underside says "01 R-PET" within/beside the recycling triangle (which indicates what it's made from, and may be relevant here). It also says "Infia" (the manufacturer's name), "www.infia.it", "MOD. K30" (the model, apparently), "11" and has the "food safe" symbol (in reverse, or to be viewed from opposite side, for some reason).

Notes: (i) The light source is an LCD monitor (which also incorporates the first polarising/polarizing filter). Use of a monitor means the light will also have passed through the R, G and B filters (i.e. the "white" light is assumed not to be continuous spectrum, which may have an effect on the final result). (ii) The second polarising filter- on the camera- is turned 90 degrees so that little direct light is visible.
