Summary[edit]

Description
English: Vung Tau, South Vietnam. 25 August 1968. Mr John Armstrong, former Sydney Lord Mayor, removed the flag from the plaque at the opening of the Harold Holt Memorial Pool. He was assisted by the Commander, Australian Forces in Vietnam (COMAFV), Major General A. L. MacDonald and Commander 1st Australian Logistic Support Group (1ALSG), Lieutenant Colonel Ian Gilmore. The pool was built by 17 Construction Squadron, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE), and Sportsmen's Appeal for Servicemen in Vietnam contributed $75,000 towards the cost. A swimming carnival, won by 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF), and barbecue followed the opening.
