Español: "Pistolas.

Este armamento se comenzó a utilizar a partir del siglo XVI. En los abordajes servía de poco, ya que quedaban inutilizadas una vez efectuado el disparo. Recargarlas era difícil y requería un cierto tiempo, del que no se disponía en una batalla cuerpo a cuerpo sobre la cubierta de un barco. Así, tras el primer disparo se utilizaban como cachiporras, a golpe de culata.

La historia de las armas de fuego puede resumirse en tres etapas:

  • Armas de Mecha: desde el siglo XV hasta finales del siglo XVII.
  • Armas de Pedernal o Chispa: desde comienzo del siglo XVI hasta principios del siglo XIX.
  • Armas de Pólvora Detonante: desde comienzo del diglo XIX hasta nuestros días."
