| Description |
English: Pillars of Hercules The locality name 'Pillars of Hercules' has been given on maps for a long time now. It possibly might to refer to these stones next to the house where it is said they used to rest coffins on the way up to a former burial ground at Kilgour Farm about a mile west of here. But the original Greek mythological Pillars of Hercules were at Gibraltar (the limit of the known world) and a plausible explantion for the name is that a former owner of Falkland estate simply decided that name would be nice to use for the northern 'limit' of his estate. |
