Description
Deutsch: Rund 100 Kopien sprechen für die außerordentliche Beliebtheit dieser Komposition nach Pieter Bruegel dem Älteren. Man hat vermutet, dass der ungewöhnlich strenge Winter des Jahres 1564/65 auslösendes Moment für Bruegels zweimalige Beschäftigung mit dem Thema der Winterlandschaft gewesen sein könnte. Der Vogelfalle (rechts) und den Eisläufern wurde sprichwörtlicher bzw. moralisierender Hintersinn unterlegt (Ermahnung zur Wachsamkeit, Schlüpfrigkeit der Lebensbahn), doch ohne überzeugenden Beweis. Diese Kopie gilt als eines der ältesten und qualitätvollsten Exemplare.
