Description

Looking toward St. Mark's Square and Doge's Palace from San Giorgio Maggiore island.

It is high tide, and the sidewalk in front of me is slightly flooded. I noticed earlier in the morning that a sidewalk near the Rialto Bridge was also flooded. Venice is built on sand bars that continue to sink, so this continues to be an issue; in fact, by Christmas, a particularly nasty Acqua Alta (High Water) would leave St. Mark's Square under two feet of water.
