Deutsch: Vor der Kalifornischen Küste wird nährstoffreiches Tiefenwasser durch Meeresströmungen an die Meeresoberfläche gedrückt. Dieses nährstoffreiche Wasser sorgt für eine große Vermehrung des Phytoplanktons. Das untere Falschfarben Satellitenbild zeigt den Chlorophyll-Gehalt des oberflächennahen Meerwassers. Die höchsten Konzentrationen von Phytoplankton (Schwarz- bis Rottöne) finden sich an den Stellen, wo das nährstoffreiche Tiefenwasser nach oben strömt. |
