Description
English: This 1 May 1833 complaint was filed to obtain the release of Phillis Shiner 1808 -1848 and her three children from the Alexandria Virginia slave jail. The complaint was filed by her attorney Francis Scott Key against Levi Pumphrey and others for illegally abducting and holding the Shiner family. Phillis Shiner was the wife of noted African American diarist Michael Shiner 1805-1880
