English: Philip Ford (1900 - 1976) was born in Portland, Maine as Philip Feeney. He followed his father, Francis Ford, and his uncle, John Ford to Los Angeles. First an actor in silent films, he later became a director. He inscribes the photo to "Irene" who is his step-sister, Irene Sears (later DePaola). Irene's father, Alexander Sears (1888-1961) married Philip's mother, Della Cole (1885 - 1946) on January 8, 1921 in Portland, Maine before moving to Los Angeles, initially living with Philip. The full inscription reads "To Irene With very Best(sic) wishes always, Phil, May 1925" |
