Description
English: Triumph of Vainglory (Gloria Mundi, Fama); frontispiece to Petrarch's De Viris Illustribus, circa 1380, (BnF MS Latin 6069I). The image is thought to be based on a fresco by Giotto in the palace of Azzone Visconti, in Milan. This is one of the forerunners of the iconographic tradition illustrating Petrarch's Triumphs.
