Description
English: Petition for Freedom dated 1 June 1833 in the case of Phillis Shiner vs Levi Pumphrey. This petition was filed by Francis Scott Key attorney for Phillis Shiner 1808 -1848. The petition states Phillis and her three children are being held illegally in the Alexandria Virginia slave jail. Phillis Shiner was the spouse of noted African American diarist Michael G. Sharp 1805 -1880
