JPEG file comment | RUBENS, Pieter Pauwel
(b. 1577, Siegen, d. 1640, Antwerpen) The Three Graces 1620-23 Oil on wood, 47 x 34 cm Galleria Palatina (Palazzo Pitti), Florence Rubens is famous for his fat ladies, and these ample bodies are vibrantly expressive. What Rubens the antiquarian painted in this rapid and skillful oil sketch was his interpretation of an ancient relief.
