English: In 1800, Ludwig I's younger brother Prince Christian ordered a Park to be built on a high hill, which would have been accessible to all the inhabitants of the city.
In 1833, the Park passed into the possession of Archduke Ludwig III and his wife Matilda, after whom the site was named Mathildenhohe. From the Park remained a regular site - sycamore alley. In 1880 the city reservoir was built, immediately behind which the Russian chapel was later built During his stay in England, the Grand Duke was introduced to new ideas of revival. crafts promoted by the Arts and crafts movement. By this time the publisher Alexander Koch already he promoted the "new style" in architecture and decorative arts. In July 1899, Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig (1868-1937) founded a colony of artists here, for which he convened the Darmstadt young architects so that they built here to their liking houses. Великий герцог Эрнст Людвиг(1868-1937) основал здесь колонию деятелей искусства, для чего созвал в Дармштадт молодых архитекторов с тем, чтобы они построили здесь по своему вкусу дома. При участии герцога родилась идея организовать здесь грандиозную выставку под названием «Документ немецкого искусства непреходящего значения», которая и была открыта 15 мая 1901 г. Ведущей личностью в этой колонии был архитектор Йозеф Мария Олбрих (1867-1908)Б известный тем, что организовал в Вене постройку ставшего знаменитым Сецессиона. Для него искусство было ничем иным, как гармоничной и эстетически значимой инсценировкой жизни. |
