Meer informatie Het Goudse gymnasium was de opvolger van de oude Latijnse school die nog door Erasmus bezocht was. Huisvesting van de Rijks Hoogere burgerschool en het gymnasium samen in één pand bleek niet mogelijk en in 1880 bleef er een pro- gymnasium over. In 1888 werd het weer een echt gymnasium. In 1889 kocht de directeur van de kaarsenfabriek het grote pand aan de Westhaven voor de vestiging van het gymnasium. Een jaar later werd in de tuin deze woning voor de conciërge gebouwd. In 1947 werd het gymnasium naar de humanist Coornhert genoemd, die tot zijn dood in 1590 politiek asiel had gekregen in Gouda. Het gymnasium is tegenwoordig buiten het centrum gevestigd. Bron: Gouda
