Summary[edit]

Description
English: Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum. Steam loco SIRTOM stands in the former inner quarry, having worked up the steep (up to 1 in 20) climb from the middle quarry bottom. A Euclid dumper truck stands behind, with Blencathra providing the backdrop across the valley.

This 0-4-0 saddle tank loco was built in Stafford in 1926 by Bagnalls, who specialised in small shunting locos for industrial and large commercial sites. From new the loco worked in Kent for British Insulated Callender Cables (BICC) and was named after Sir Tom Callender. Redundant in 1968, it lay disused for 33 years before movement to Threlkeld, where it was restored to working order by 2010.

The Euclid dumper truck seen here is said to have been delivered new there in 1952. For some years it carried a water bowser, but has now been reunited with an original body.

This Museum is a really fascinating place to visit, with superb views across the valley to Blencathra (Saddleback Mountain).
