Barbour, M.D.,Louisville, Ky., Professor of Chemistry and Chief of the Childrens Clinic in theHospital College of Medicine, etc. THE case is one of extra-genital chancre in a child threeyears of age. I have watched the child since its birth.The case emphasizes the fact that the initial syphiliticlesion may often be overlooked in children. The motherbrought this child to the clinic three months ago, and uponexamination I found several mucous patches about the cheeksand palate, a sore throat, and condylomata about the anus.Knowing that the case was not hereditary I searched for thelocation of the initial lesion and made a thorough examinationof the mouth. I found on the inner side of the under lipevidence of an old sore. Upon interrogating the mother I wastold that she had syphilis about nine months before, and pre-sumably the child contracted syphilis from nursing her. Itrequired censiderable search to discover the remains of thisinitial sor
