O Horto Municipal construído em 1985 proporciona contato do público com a Natureza e cuida de diversas espécies de animais. O Pavão símbolo da cidade de Taubaté, é um animal parcialmente albino e não consegue sobreviver na natureza por muito tempo por apresentarem grande sensibilidade à luz do sol e serem alvo fácil de predadores. Além de serem extremamente cobiçados no mercado de aves, o animal chega a ser vendido por 3000 reais, com título de ave ornamental.
